<p>On the May 17 edition of Fox News&#39; <i>The O&#39;Reilly Factor,</i> while
discussing May 17 Senate <a href="http://mediamatters.org/rd?src=item200705180007&http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/18/washington/18immig.html?_r=1&amp;hp&amp;oref=slogin">negotiations</a> on a
bipartisan immigration bill, host <a href="http://mediamatters.org/issues_topics/people/billoreilly?src=item200705180007">Bill O&#39;Reilly</a>
said: "Reluctantly, and I mean reluctantly, &#39;Talking Points&#39;
is going to support this legislation. It&#39;s the best we can get and does improve
the situation." But O&#39;Reilly asserted that the bill "drastically
alters the United States of
  America," adding that "there
will be unintended consequences all over the place. The new census report says America&#39;s
now one-third minority." He continued, "And in four states -- California,
New Mexico, Texas,
and Hawaii --
whites are the minority." </p>

<p>O&#39;Reilly was citing a <a href="http://mediamatters.org/rd?src=item200705180007&http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/releases/archives/population/006808.html">report</a> from the U.S.
Census Bureau, which found that "[a]bout 1-in-every-3 U.S.
residents was part of a group other than single-race non-Hispanic white."
He then claimed that "with the infusion of as many as 20 to 30 million
new citizens in the next 10 years, the landscape of America will absolutely
change." </p>

<p>As <i>Media
Matters for America</i> has noted, O&#39;Reilly has previously
expressed concern over the increasing non-white population in the United States:</p>

<ul><li>On the May 16, 2006, edition of <i>The O&#39;Reilly
Factor</i>, O&#39;Reilly <a href="http://mediamatters.org/items/200605170006?src=item200705180007">claimed</a> that <i>The New York Times</i> and "many far-left thinkers believe
the white power structure that controls America is bad, so a drastic change
is needed." O&#39;Reilly continued: "According to the lefty zealots, the white
Christians who hold power must be swept out by a new multicultural tide, a
rainbow coalition, if you will." O&#39;Reilly&#39;s comments came during a
discussion of opposition by the <i>Times</i>
and others to deploying the National Guard to help secure the border.</li></ul>

<ul><li>On the May 1, 2006, edition of Westwood One&#39;s <i>The Radio Factor</i>, O&#39;Reilly <a href="http://mediamatters.org/items/200605030009?src=item200705180007">alleged</a> that the "organizers"
of nationwide pro-immigrant protests had a "hardcore militant agenda of &#39;You
stole our land, you bad gringos,&#39; " and that the protest organizers were
seeking to "take it back by massive, massive migration into the
Southwest.&#39; "</li></ul>

<ul><li>On the April 12, 2006, broadcast of his radio show, O&#39;Reilly <a href="http://mediamatters.org/items/200604140009?src=item200705180007">claimed</a> that on the April 11 edition of <i>The O&#39;Reilly Factor</i>, guest Charles Barron,
a New York City
councilman, had revealed the "hidden agenda" behind the current
immigration debate. O&#39;Reilly told his listeners: "[T]he bottom line is
Charles Barron said last night is there is a movement in this country to wipe
out &#39;white privilege&#39; and to have the browning of America." O&#39;Reilly suggested
that this "hidden agenda" included plans to let "people who live
in the Caribbean, people who live in Africa and Asia
... walk in and become citizens immediately."  </li></ul>

Finally,
the happiest guy in the country tonight is Senator Edward Kennedy [D-MA]
because this amnesty is a boon to the Democratic Party. Most of the new
citizens will become Democrats simply because of entitlements and peer
pressure. So there you have it. It&#39;s not pretty. But if the government stops
the madness at the border and punishes employers who continue to violate the
law, I&#39;ll go with it because there&#39;s nothing better coming down the pike.
