[narconews] US Rep. Serrano Writes to State Department about the Murder of Brad Will Date: Tue, 15 May 2007 17:49:29 -0500 (CDT) May 15, 2007 Please Distribute Widely Dear Colleague, Since the assassination, last October, of Indymedia journalist Brad Will, Mexican authorities say they've made no progress on the case. This, in spite of the fact that Will's own video has identified the shooters, operatives in the political machine of Oaxaca Governor Ulises Ruiz. The Will family has traveled to Mexico and demanded the end of the bureaucratic stalling of the investigation. Now, US Congressman Josi Serrano has sent a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urging her to pressure the Mexican government into action. From Serrano's letter: "I am writing to request any information you might have regarding the status of the Mexican government's investigation into the shooting of Brad Will, an American journalist who was murdered in Oaxaca, Mexico in October, 2006. Mr. Will was a frequent visitor to my district who volunteered with several local organizations in the South Bronx. "...The murder of Mr. Will raises a larger issue about the role of the Mexican government in aggressively pursuing a cessation of murder, beatings, and torture carried out by police and paramilitary groups in Oaxaca, Guadalajara, San Salvador, and Atenco. Some of my newest constituents hail from these regions and have fled their former homes in the face of escalating violence and intimidation by these groups."
