NEWS from TUC Radio Date: Mon, 14 May 2007 00:45:34 -0500 (CDT) Dear All, HERE IS THE LATEST TUC RADIO NEWS: The interview with Dr. James Hansen that I mentioned in my last letter in February is available as "double bill" with an interview with Hermann Scheer, a German parliamentarian. I went to the same conference (AGU) where a year earlier Hansen had been censored by NASA and the government to monitor what might happen. When he came off the podium I asked him for an interview and he gave me 25 minutes right then. Hansen is one of the few climate scientists who has consistently warned that the impact that humans have on the climate is bringing about changes that are faster than we ever believed and maybe irreversible if action is not taken now. Hansen is Director of the NASA Institute for Space Studies in New York City, a division of the Goddard Space Flight Center. Dr. Hermann Scheer co-wrote legislation that favors all renewable energy sources and is confident that Germany will be powered by renewables ONLY within 40 years. Germany is now the world leader in renewable energy. The program is called: A295 Interviews with Dr. JAMES HANSEN, NASA AND DR. HERMANN SCHEER (Also on DVD) As you can see I have been busy! A huge success was a talk by Chris Hedges on American Fascists and Parenti's talk on Theocracy VS. Democracy.. A298 Bill McKibben: DEEP ECONOMY A talk and conversation with Michael Pollan on McKibben's recent book: Deep Economy. Greeted with many rounds of applause McKibben describes routes to localization and - dare to name it - happiness. Recorded in Berkeley in March 2007. (Also on DVD) A297 Robert Fisk: THE ARMENIAN HOLOCAUST & CIVIL WAR IN IRAQ AND LEBANON Robert Fisk, foreign correspondent for the London Independent, received an exuberant welcome when he came to the Bay Area in December 2006. He spoke on civil war in Iraq and Lebanon and the ongoing denial of the genocide of one and a half million Armenians by the Ottoman Turks in 1915. Even though he consistently criticizes the New York Times they described him as "probably the most famous foreign correspondent in Britain." (Also on DVD) A296 Chris Hedges: AMERICAN FASCISTS The Christian Right and the War on America Chris Hedges says: "What is happening in America is revolutionary. A group of religious utopians, with the sympathy and support of tens of millions of Americans, are slowly dismantling democratic institutions to establish a religious tyranny, the springboard to an American fascism." There are now more than 70 million evangelical Christians living in America, many of whom have established their own set of media outlets, schools, and communities. (Also on DVD) MP004 Michael Parenti: THEOCRACY VS DEMOCRACY Democracy can't survive under religious rule - whatever that religion may be, says Parenti. His warning in this archival recording is as timely and urgently expressed as it was when this speech was first given during the second term of the Reagan administration. This talk is also very funny. Parenti explains how God may be considered as a "founding father" and why Woody Allen calls him an underachiever. (Also on DVD) MP025 Michael Parenti: THE JFK ASSASSINATION AND THE GANGSTER NATURE OF THE STATE Parenti examines the haunting question whether agencies of the state would assassinate an elected president and goes over details of the assassination. This is one of many "standing ovations" talks by Parenti. The master for this program was lost and this appears to be the only copy of the original recording. With roots in a working class Italian district of New York and a Ph.D. in political science from Yale Michael Parenti has become an internationally known writer and lecturer. He is the author of twenty books.
