"Several carloads of gunmen surrounded the minibus and shot into the bus, killing the journalists, before making their escape," said colonel Ferras Abdullah, chief of police in al-Rashad where the attack took place. "Their bodies were riddled with dozens of bullets," another officer said in al-Rashad, a restive northern city and a hub of Iraq's oil industry about 60km south of Kirkuk. The dead were named as Raad Mutasha al-Issawi, 42, editor of Al-Iraq Al-Ghad ("Iraq Tomorrow"), 29-year-old Nibras Abdul Razak Obeid, his brother Imad Abdul Razak Obeid, 25, and Aqil Abulkader al-Wan, 26. The Kirkuk-based Iraq Tomorrow is a weekly newspaper that has received US sponsorship and regularly publishes editorials attacking terrorism, said local journalists. At least 164 journalists and media professionals, the vast majority of them Iraqis, have been killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion of March 2003, according to an AFP tally of reports. * ================================================================ .NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems .
