Last night, President Bush delivered on his threat to veto a timeline 
for withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, with blatant disregard for the 
opinions of the American and Iraqi people. In a recent CBS News Poll, 
64% of Americans said they want to see a deadline set for withdrawal 
from Iraq for some time in 2008.

You and I have known for a long time that the American public wants to 
end the war in Iraq; in the coming days we must make sure that Congress 
understands that message. *It is unclear what Congress's next steps will 
be after the veto, and they will be watching public opinion closely to 
decide on a plan.*

Take a minute to write a letter to the editor showing the public 
supports Congress's efforts to end the war.

Our allies in Congress have told us that the next steps will largely be 
determined by the battle for public opinion. In the next few days, we 
need to get our message out as many ways as possible. The newspapers 
will have extensive coverage of reactions to the veto. Supporters of the 
war are pressuring Congress to cave and send the Bush administration a 
blank check. Members of Congress use the opinion page to gauge how their 
constituents feel about an issue.

setting a timeline to withdraw our troops.*

We are at a key turning point in our work to end the disastrous war in
