Article by Fidel Castro Echoes in the International Press

Havana, May 2 (acn) A stinging article by Cuban President Fidel Castro 
in which he advocated a world energy revolution, while chastising the 
abusive use of food as fuel, has had a tremendous impact in the press 
all over the planet.

News agencies such as AFP, EFE, Notimex, Reuters, ANSA, AP, DPA and 
Telam commented on the article published this May 1 in the Granma 
newspaper.

Fidel Castro was reported to have sent a warning to humankind on the 
tragedy the world would face if nations pursue the irrational energy 
policy taken by the United States.

France's AFP quotes several lines of the article and concurred with the 
Spanish EFE news agency that Fidel Castro has taken up the pen once 
again to strike out against Bush's initiative to turn food into fuel.

British Reuters called the message a counterattack on the use of 
ethanol as a gasoline substitute and a new opportunity to speak up on 
the risks of bio-fuels.

The American agency AP reported that the Cuban President was sounding 
the alarm about the negative impact that bio-fuels obtained from food 
would bring for developing countries.

Likewise, the story was covered widely by the digital press by outlets 
that included Por Esto and Milenio, from Mexico; the Spanish ABT 
Noticias website and Peru's Puntocom.

Fidel Castro, recovering from intestinal surgery performed nine months 
ago, said International Workers Day was the perfect time to spread this 
message to the working class and poor of the world.
