1998 - Indian Defense Minister Fernandes
keeps open the nuclear option. India is reviewing its
strategic defense and considers building nuclear weapons. It
will not sign the NPT and the CTBT. Fernandes further claimed
that India has enough missiles to deter Pakistan.

1998 (UPI) - A US delegation will arrive
in Islamabad to prepare a visit by president Clinton to South
Asia. They will also talk about Pakistan's missile program and
the UN's peace initiative in Afghanistan.

npp will be inspected to determine wheter it can be restarted
after two years.

1998 - DOE announced that a shipment of
spent nuclear fuel from Asian research reactors will arrive in
Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory
(INEEL) in July. Four shipments through Charleston Naval
Weapons Station already took place. The comming shipment will
pass through the Concord Naval Weapons Station
which can
expect 5 of these shipments in the comming 11 years.

1998 - The New York Times monday reported
that in 1996 scientists from Hughes Electronics Co. and Loral
Space & Communications Ltd. provided China with expertise that
significnatly improved the reliability of their nuclear
missiles. However
criminal charges are undermined
since
earlier this year president Clinton approved Loral to export
the same technology to China.

1998 - US diplomats wednesday expressed concerns
about the nuclear missile competition between Pakistan and India.
Pakistan has recently test-fired its "Ghauri" missile. Analysts
believe the American reaction on this test was "muted" to make clear
to New Delhi that only dialogue can stop a continental arms race.
India refuses to include the Kashmir dispute in peace talks. It told
the US officials it will take all necessary steps to assure its
security.
