Bulgaria and an European consortium which is compiled by the
German Siemens AG
France`s Framatome and the Russian
Atomenergoexport to modernize two reactors of the Bulgarian
Kozloduy nuclear power plant was signed.  Modernisation works are
scheduled to start in 1999 they will cost at about $200 million.

General Accounting Office accused the Department of Energy in not
having any strategy to prevent nuclear waste  which is stored in
the Hanford resevation leaking out into the ground water and in
having no idea of proper cleanup decisions. A senator wonders if
the DOE should remain those projects.
