WASHINGTON 20 oct. `97 (Reuters) -In a meeting with Madelaine
Albright this September in New York Chinese Minister Qian Qichen
promised that they will stop selling cruise missiles to Iran.
President Clinton is  optimistic that China will also stop its
nuclear cooperation with Teheran
which would be very important
for his policy of isolationship.
As U.S. officials say China has become a more cooperative
partner on nuclear issues. It has signed among others the Nuclear
Nonproliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.
So they expect a satisfactory result of the Sino-U.S. summit
planned for oct. 29.



LOS ANGELES
Oct. 20 `97 (Reuters) - The nuclear power plant in
Palo Verde stopped supplying electicity because of a temperature
control problem. Now it is shut  for an indefinite time.
