WASHINGTON
Nov. 18 (UPI) `97 -- The deal between the US and
Kazakhstan  including bilateral peaceful nuclear cooperation
has been signed today.



WASHINGTON 19 nov. `97 (Reuters) - Beneath other contracts the
US and Kazakhstan signed an agreement Tuesday which regulates
the dispose of nuclear waste from Kazakhstan`s only nuclear
power plant which contains a breeder reactor producing
plutonium-bearing spent fuel. Kazakhstan also assured to shut
down the plant by 2003 because of concerns of its nearness to
the Iranian border.



MOSCOW
Nov 19 `97 (AFP) - Vladimir Goman head of the Russian
parlamentary committee on northern Russia said Wednesday that
the nuclear waste and submarines stored in the North could
cause a nuclear disaster in the order of the Chernobyl
accident.
The costs to reprocess the nuclear waste are about  $100
billion
Goman added. Russia would like to organise an
international conference which concerns about this problem.

Nov 19 `97 (Reuters) - The British government keeps to
the fishing ban in the sea around Dunreay.
There will be more tests to examinate the radiation level in
the sea caused by the Dounrean reprocessing plant.

international coalition to rebuild the sacrophagus around the
Chernobyl reactor four is co-chaired by the US vice president Al
Gore
the Ukraine president Leonid Kuchma
US Secretary of Energy
Federico Pena and Ukrainian Minister for Environment and Nuclear
Safety Yuriy Kostenko.

to the Russian president Boris Yeltsin
Alexander Lebed repeated
his claim about the 'nuclear briefcases' of 30 kilograms each.
He urges the bombs to be located and destroyed before some theft
could performed.


NEW YORK Nov 20 1997 (Reuters)  The 'shelter implement plan' of
40 countries under the administrative supervision of the European
Bank for Reconstruction and Development will construct in 22
projects a more stable and environmentally more safe 400 million
dollars sacrophagus over the Chernobyl reactor 4 by the year
2005.


OTTAWA
Nov. 20 1997 (UPI)  19.7 US dollars are contributed by
the Canadian government to help repair the unstable protective
shelter around the Chernobyl-4 reactor.


NEW YORK
Nov 20 1997 (Reuters) Ontario Hydro closed down unit
8 of the Pickering nuclear power plant for maintenance reasons.
Unit 8 joins the three other Pickering reactors in closing-down
for repair. It is unknown when the four reactors will be
restarted.
