WASHINGTON 19 nov. `97 (Reuters) - Beneath other contracts the US and Kazakhstan signed an agreement Tuesday which regulates the dispose of nuclear waste from Kazakhstan`s only nuclear power plant which contains a breeder reactor producing plutonium-bearing spent fuel. Kazakhstan also assured to shut down the plant by 2003 because of concerns of its nearness to the Iranian border. MOSCOW Nov 19 `97 (AFP) - Vladimir Goman head of the Russian parlamentary committee on northern Russia said Wednesday that the nuclear waste and submarines stored in the North could cause a nuclear disaster in the order of the Chernobyl accident. The costs to reprocess the nuclear waste are about $100 billion Goman added. Russia would like to organise an international conference which concerns about this problem.
