Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. is trying to sell Turkey between two and four 700 MWe CANDU reactors. According to the activists Canada should withdraw from the CANDU export business. WASHINGTON Sept 25 (Reuter) - On Thursday a U.S. Energy Department attorney was heard on why the department should not start moving and storing spent fuel from commercial nuclear reactors next year. Energy Department attorney John Bryson argued that the department did not have authority from Congress to provide temporary storage. The attorney for nuclear utilities Jay Silberg said that the department was trying evade the responsibility for the waste. Silberg argued that if DOE does not start handling the waste by 1998 the money payed to the Nuclear Waste Fund should be put into escrow. RICHLAND Wash.
