1997 (AFP) -  August 16 1997 there was registered a
nuclear-test-like earth tremor near Novaya Zemlya of an
equivalent between 100 - 1000 tonnes of TNT by the monitor
system under the compre-hensive Test Ban Treaty of 1996.
Russia on friday denied there was an explosion at that time
because the Novaya Zemlya nuclear test site is closed.

Aug 29 1997 (Reuter) A law has been signed to deregulate the
Californian electric utilities. Consumers groups plan to fight
the dept scheme of the law all the way to the Supreme Court.
The transition period from a state regulated to a deregulated
electricity-marked is expected to be 4 years.


Aug 30 1997 (AFP) Four men are arrested on friday in Limasol
by the Cyprus police. The men are supects in an illegal
nuclear waste dump deal off the coast of the island. The waste
is momentally supposed to be in a tanker on its way to Cyprus.


Aug. 30 1997 (UPI) North Korean diplomat in Cairo Jang Sung
Gil was recruited by the CIA for espionage on the North Korean
sale of missiles and its cusomers. Gil and his family is now
in the USA.
