Date: Wed 8/27/97 Denver Post Denver and the West section: Jefferson County High pollution levels found Retests on water from Walnut Creek which flows from Rocky Flats confirm elevated levels of plutonium in the creek said a spokeswoman for the clean-up of the fomrer nuclear weaopns manufacturing plant. Earlier tests showed concentrations of plutonium three times accepted levels. Tests have begun on sediments in the creek and additional monitoring stations have been set up in an effort to find the source of the plutonium said Jennifer Thompson spokeswoman for Kaiser-Hill prime contractor for the cleanup. Scientists from both the state health department and the Environmetnal Protection Agency said the levels while higher than normal were not a health concern because the creek isn't used as a drinking supply. Data from the sediment tests as sell as the regularly scheduled monthly test on the creek should be available by mid-September Thompson said.
