said the country would need at least $500 million to $600
million in order to keep the Chernobyl sarcophagus safe. At a
recent meeting
the G7 had decided to set up a fund of $300
million.

Japan's 51st commercial
reactor will start up. The 1360 MW reactor is situated at
Tokyo Electric Power Co Inc's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power
complex. Municipal officials voiced concern about the waste
problem.

the U.S. Senate will
discuss the Comprehensive nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Its
ratification may face opposition from republican hard liners.

1997 (UPI) - Two Lithuanian immigrants were aressted
and accused of trying to sell nuclear arms in Miami on Monday.
The action was result of a two year investigation. The
Pentagon said it was generally very concerned
but doesn't
belive the two guys have had access to nuclear weapons.

plant blocked the Trans-Siberian railway near Vladivostok
because thaey hadn't received any wages for 10 months.
