Swedish buisness and trade unions were opposed to the move by the Secial Democrats and the Center Party. Jun 11, 1997 (UPI) - The Big Rock Point, Michigan, nuclear plant, operating since 1962 and therefor the longest operating station in the U.S., will be shut down at the end of August. Consumer Energy, the operator, blamed financial reasons for the move, but said the closure would not effect electricity rated, as $170 million were saved to cover decommissioning costs.
