The owners had decided to cut $41 million planned to be spend on repairs, as they do not believe a buyer for the plant would show up. Peco of Phiuladelphia, which had shown interest in buying the plant, was surprised by that move. May 28, 1997 (UPI) - The chicago Sun Times cited what it said to be an NRC report, according to which there were 17 apparent violations of federal safety rules unveiled during an investigation of an 21 February accident at Commonwealth edison's Zion nuclear plant. May 28, 1997 (Reuter) - China offered assistance to Taiwan in handling its nuclear waste, if the transport to North Korea would cause too much trouble. May 29, 1997 (UPI) - Local anti nuclear groups in Maine, believing the Maine Yankee nuclear plant would stay closed for good, pointed out the problem of decomissioning and handling the waste and said this would cost far more money than the operators had budgeted.
