SEOUL, May 27, 1997 (UPI) -- Hans Blix, general director of
the IAEA, said that the planned export of radioactive waste by
Taiwan will not be supervised by the agency. He said no
international organisation would have supervisory rights.


SEOUL, May 27, 1997 (Reuter) - North Korea had more plutonium
than admitted when signing an agreement with the US in 1994 to
freeze its nuclear programme, Hans Blix said. North Korea
would have produced a few hundred to maybe 8 kilograms of
plutonium.
China would consider the acceptance of Taiwanese waste to
avoid a row between Taiwan and North Korea, according to Blix.


PARIS, May 27, 1997 (Reuter) - Russia would stop targetting
nuclear missiles at NATO states, president Yeltsin announced
at the NATO summit in Paris.


SAN FRANCISCO, May 27, 1997 (UPI) -- The owner of the US
nuclear plant Diablo Canyon, Pacific Gas and Electric Co.,
agreed to pay more than $14 million to settle an environmental
case. The company is accused of violating state and federal
clean water laws.

Main Yankee nuclear power plant will probably be closed,
according to the owner. No more spendings will be made untill
a final decision is taken. 900 repair workers were dismissed.
Only hope exists in the possibility that Peco Energy Co. will
buy the plant, however chances seems to be low.
