Feb 7, 1997 (Reuter) - Refering to Russian Defense Minister
Igor Rodinov's remarks, the Russian armed forces were unable
to control their own nuclear weapons, western analysts voiced
concern about polotical instabilities and proliferation.

Feb 10, 1997 (Reuter) - The United States gouvernment
apologized for mistakenly firing 1,520 bullets containing
depleted uranium during a military exercise on a southern
Japanese island near Okinawa in late 1995 and early 1996.
Japan accepted the apology, but regretted the incident and the
late notification.

Feb 11, 1997 (Reuter) - A 30-member survey team will be sent
by the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organisation (KEDO)
to North Korea at February 22 and stay for a maximum of five
month. The KEDO supplys North korea with two light water
reactors.

Feb 11, 1997 (Reuter) - Kremlin official Ivan Rybkin,
secretary of the policy-making Security Council said Russia
could respond to a conventional attack with nuclear weapons.
President Yeltsin distanced from the remarks, saying only the
Foreign Minister, the Defense Minister and the President would
be entitled to marks Russia's official position.

Feb 11, 1997 (Reuter) - A strike at a nuclear shipyard in the
north-Russian town Severodvinsk could turn into a riot, a
local union leader said on tuesday. Some workers haven't
received any wages for up to eight months, about 12,000
umemployed workers haven't got any state benefits for more
than a year.

Feb 11, 1997 (Reuter) - Going beyond the agreement about the
closure of the two Barseback reactors, Sweden's Prime Minister
Goran Persson Tuesday announced that more reactors will be
closed before 2010.
