Jan 3, 1997 (UPI) - After the Illinois Nuclear Safety
Department had set up standards for a low-level nuclear waste
dump, the 340-people town Jeffersonville, though excluded from
a former review proccess, applied for the disposal facility. A
appropriate site shall be found in three years.

Jan 3, 1997 (Reuter) - Due to pinhole-sized holes in some of
the fuel rods the Maine Yankee, U.S., nuclear power station
will remain shut down until mid-February. The holes had caused
a slight increase of iodine levels in the coolant water,
officials said.

Jan 3, 1997 (Reuter) - The nuclear pact about the delivery of
light water reactors to North Korea will be raised up again
next week, after being frozen since the North Korean submarine
incursion in September. "With the two protocols to be signed
next week, all basic framework would have been laid out for
the start of the construction," an official of the consortium
which provides the reactors said.

Jan 4, 1997 (UPI) - A South Korean survey team will make a
trip to the proposed site for the nuclear reactors. The plan
for that visit was renewed after an apology from North Korea
for the submarine incursion last September.
