Jan 1, 1997 (Reuter) - After the Taiwan Power Company had
stopped dumping nuclear waste on Lanyu island last July it is
now looking for another site, considering the offshore island
of Matsu, the eastern counties of Hualien and Taitung, and the
southern county of Pingtung. The utility promised US$109
million for the local government and the residents of the
final site.

Jan 2, 1997 (UPI) - According to the Chicago Tribune there
were serious safety problems found during an investigation
into the Commomwealth Edison owned LaSalle nuclear power
plant. The utility had hired a group of consulants to look
over the plant which is closed since September for maintance
and refuling.
