8 Oct 1996  (Reuter) - Ukrainian Environment Minister Yuri
Kostenko claimed that the Ukraine had not received any of the
money promised by the G7 until now, and even if they would be
going to sign the agreement with the European Bank for
Reconstruction and Development, the first amount would come in
January, while the Ukraine had already promised to close the
first reactor of Chernobyl next month.

8 Oct 1996  (Reuter) - In Hamaoka, southwest of Tokyo, Japan,
the construction of a 1.36 MW Advanced boiling water reactor
will start in 1999, with a planned begin of operation in 2005.
The resistance against the plant, which was promoted by the
earthquake in Kobe and the accident at the Monju fast breeder
last year, finally dropped, Japan's Chubu Electric Power Co
Inc said. After getting the local approval, the plans must
still be approved by a government committee on electricity
resources next march.
