5 Oct 1996 (UPI) - A Sept. 5 incident in the Illinois nuclear
power plant in Clinten, when a pump wasn't shut down although
there was a leak detected, alerted the federal Nuclear
Regulatory Commision to do increased inspection at the plant.
It is expected that Illinois Power will be heavily fined for
the incident, which the NRC now says to reflect ``incredibly
poor judgement'' by top managment.


5 Oct 1996 (Reuter) - Kumar Gujral, Minister for Foreign
affairs of India, said in a speech to the UN general assembly
on Friday, India would resist on not signing such a ``half
haerted'' treaty like the CTBT. 


4 Oct 1996  (Reuter) - Greenpeace, the Nuclear Control
Institute and the Natural Resources Defence Council on Friday
protested against the proposed shipment of US military
plutonium to Canada for use in civilian reactors. There would
possibly be about 50 tonnes of surplus weapons grade plutoium
in the US and Russia, which could be send to Canada.


4 Oct 1996  (Reuter) - Since September 24, 111 nations have
signed the nuclear test ban treaty, not including India.
