Nov 1, 1996 (Reuter) - Turkey will hold an initial tender for
its first nuclear power plant, a 1200 MW station to be build
near the southern costal village Akkuyu, on November 25. The
final tender is planned to start in February, with the winner
to be known in July.

Oct 31, 1996 (UPI) - The russian top nuclear scientist
Vladimir Nechay commited suicide after the 3,000 employees he
was responsible for hadn't received no wages from the
gouvernment for five month. Nechay had been director of one of
Russia's two federal atomic reserch centres in Chelabinsk-70.
For November 5 a nationwide strike is prepared, with about 20
million workers walking off their jobs.

Oct 30, 1996 (Reuters) - A report from the Institute of
Medicine, conducted for the U.S. Department of Veterans
Affairs and the Defense Special Weapons Agency, concluded that
military personnel exposed to radiation during the
"Crossroads" nuclear test in 1946 doesn't show a higher cancer
rate and only a non-significant risk of death. 

Nov 1, 1996 (Reuter) - After the Unit 3 of the San Onofre,
U.S., nuclear power plant had been brought to 46 percent of
its power due to a dropped control rod on Thursday, it will
reach full power again in about 20 hours, Ray Golden, a
spokesman of the utility said early Friday.

Nov 1, 1996 (Reuter) - Preparing the visit by U.S. Secretary
of State Warren Christopher, U.S. Undersecretary of State Lynn
Davis arrived in Beijng for talks about arms and
proliferation.

Oct 30, 1996 (Reuter) - Russia denied to sign the agreement on
regional missile defense, which had been reaffirmed by
Secretary of State Warren Christopher and Russian Foreign
Minister Yevgeny Primakov. This raised concerns about how the
power struggle in Moscow affects Russian liability.

Oct. 29 (UPI) - The 30 MW Indian research rector at Kalpakkam
went critical on Tuesday morning. It is the first asian
reactor to be fuelled with the man made Uranium isotope 233.
The plant shall be used for research on an Indian Fast Breeder
Reactor.
