PSE&G operates the Salem and Hope Creek npp's in New Jersey. PSE&G does not denie the allegations, but might challenge the size of the fine. DAMASCUS, Dec. 13 (UPI) _ A five-day Arab conference on nuclear power concluded Friday in Damascus. Recommendations were made to build npp's for electricity generation and water desalination. Syria has plans to purchase a npp from Argentina to produce their own radio-isotopes, which they now import from France and Britain. Syria says it has no plans to purchase nuclear weapons. MOSCOW, Dec. 14 (UPI) - Russian scientist Alexai Pustovalov claims the plutonium-capsules from the crashed Mars-96 will not leak within 1000 years. He told Interfax that the craft contained 18 of these capsules. SAO PAULO (Reuter) - German chemist Karl Heinz Schaab was arrested on Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro when he tried to extend his visa. Schaab is suspected of selling uranium enrichement technology to Iraq in 1989 and 1990, without permission from the German government. OTTAWA (Reuter) - Canadian Environment Minister Sergio Marchi is willing to use U.S. military plutonium in civilian nuclear reactors. Ontario Hydro is considering to use up to 100 tons of plutonium from U.S. and Russian warheads. A project to ship U.S. plutonium to Canada was abandoned last month due to opposition from U.S. anti-nuclear groups.
