Dec 5, 1996 (UPI) - 61 generals and admirals from different
countries, among them Russian Gen. Lebed and former britisch
defence chief Michael Carver, jointly called for the gradual
abolition of nuclear weapons on Thursday.

Dec. 5 (UPI) - In return to U.S. State Departments spokesman
Nicholas Burns' call on China to ``refrain from any type of
nuclear cooperation with Pakistan'', Pakistani Foreign Office
Spokesman Khalid Saleem said the criticism to be
``discriminatory'', as the Indian nuclear program wouldn't be
opposed by Western countries. China will go on helping
Pakistan at the construction of its 300 MW station in Chashma,
Punjab, he said. Furthermore he assured the plant, once build,
would operate under IAEA safeguards.

Dec 5 (Reuter) - The investigations into Northeast Utilities
for a federal criminal probe should not be limited to
Millstone, but expanded to ``long-term negligence and
mismanagement'' at the company's Haddam Neck reactor, two
watchdog groups urged. Meanwhile various reviews and
inspections by the NRC are going on.
