Dec 1, 1996 (UPI) - While Chinese President Jiang Zemin and
Pakistani President Farooq Leghari met on Sunday in Islamabad,
Chinese Foreign Minister spokesman Shen Guofeng once again
confirmed that there is no military nuclear cooperation
between the two states.
	

Dec 1, 1996 (Reuter) - At 3 pm EST the reactor No. 1 of
Chernobyl was shut down as planned. Industry officials had
remarked, that the Ukraine may not be able to produce the
needed electricity this winter. Furthermore it would be a
problem to keep the water in the cooling system warm in order
to prevent them from breaking, if the only reactor is once
closed for repair or after an accident. Anyway Ukrainian
President Leonid Kuchma said plans to reopen the reactor were
financially unrealistic.
