Under the compromise, the pact would still ban all tests, including peaceful ones, but would be reviewed in 10 years. To meet the demands of India and Pakistan, the preamble expresses the conviction that the pact would "end the development of advanced new types of nuclear weapons" -- a formula deemed ambiguous and dangerous by some Western envoys. --- -- - 30 may 1996 (Reuter) - China said on Thursday it hoped a nuclear test ban treaty would be signed as soon as possible and urged the environmental group Greenpeace not to send a ship to Shanghai to protest against its nuclear testing.
