15 may 1996 (Reuter) - Henny van der Most, Dutch businessman,
unveiled plans on Wednesday to turn the unused German nuclear
reactor near Kalkar into an amusement park. RWE AG (RWEG.F),
Germany's largest power company, put the decommissioned and
decontaminated reactor and surrounding buildings up for sale
after abandoning Germany's only large-scale foray into
fast-breeder technology in 1991.

15 may 1996 (Reuter) - Russia will resume construction of a
South Urals nuclear power plant near Chelyabinks this year.
The power plant, with two reactors, would use already
irradiated waters from  Mayak reservoirs as cooling fluid and
would use plutonium fuel stored at Mayak, helping solve some
of the ecological problems in the region, First Deputy Prime
Minister Soskovets said. The U.S. is currently helping to
build a plutonium storage area near Mayak, paying half of the
$300 million cost.

15 may 1996 (Reuter) - The environmental protest ship
Greenpeace set sail on Wednesday for Shanghai to protest over
China's continued refusal to stop  nuclear testing. "In terms
of verification, this is like a hole as wide as a bulldozer
for a treaty because the information from a peaceful nuclear
explosion is obviously just as useful to the military as a
military test is," Greenpeace campaign director Stephanie
Mills said.
