(Jan. 4) Reuter is reporting that Pakistan acknowledges having the technological capability to make nuclear weapons but will not sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty unless their rival India agrees to sign. (Jan. 4) Reuter is reporting that Russian nuclear plant Sosnovy Bor shut down one of its four reactors when a short circuit knocked out monitoring equipment used to check the flow of power from the station. This is the same plant that caused international concern when radioactive iodine and other gases escaped in March 1992. The reactors are the same type as those at Chernobyl. (Jan. 5) Reuter is reporting that India has purchased enriched uranium from China to fuel its US-built Tarpur nuclear plant near Bombay.
