B. Robinson Plant has been named manager-Operations at Shearon Harris Plant effective May 11, 1998. Ken Pace served as acting manager of Operations at Harris replacing Bruce Meyer who recently took an extended leave of absence. Until a new H. B. Robinson manager-Outage & Scheduling is named, Bob Steele, Superintendent-Work Coordination, will assume responsibility for daily scheduling and work control while outage scheduling will report to John Moyer, Robinson Plant General Manager. MR Number: 4-98-0020 River Bend 1 Date: 04/29/98 St Francisville,Louisiana Senior Resident Inspector Dockets: 50-458 BWR/GE-6 Subject: STARTUP FROM FORCED OUTAGE Discussion: At 6:58 p.m. on April 28, 1998, the licensee synchronized to the grid, signifying completion of a forced outage that started on April 13, 1998, when an unisolable seal oil leak was found on the main generator. Major work during the outage included implementing repairs to the main generator to address the seal oil leak and excessive hydrogen leakage, repairing a high pressure turbine steam leak, and balancing standby gas treatment system flow to conform with Technical Specification surveillance requirements. MR Number: 4-98-0021 Comanche Peak 1 Date: 04/29/98 Glen Rose,Texas Resident Inspectors Dockets: 50-445 PWR/W-4-LP Subject: Restart from Refueling Outage Discussion: At approximately 2 a.m.(CDT), on April 28, 1998, the main generator output breakers were closed, ending the sixth refueling outage for Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station Unit 1. Major work accomplished during the outage included refueling, inspection of the main generator, main turbine heater drain system modifications to improve reliability, steam generator eddy current testing, reactor coolant pump motor replacement, eddy current testing of low pressure turbines, replacement of safety injection check valves, and the installation of five automatic safety injection letdown isolation valves. The reactor was taken critical at 12:40 a.m. on April 27. Low power physics testing was completed and Mode 1 was entered at 11:49 p.m. Regional Action: The resident inspectors monitored the licensee's actions and activities during reactor startup and generator synchronization.
