The letters were sent to more than 100 firms worldwide with experience in operating nuclear power plants. Date: 04/17/98 Cook 1 2 SITE VICE-PRESIDENT OF ENGINEERING Bridgman,Michigan Dockets: 50-315,50-316 PWR/W-4-LP,PWR/W-4-LP Subject: RESIGNATION OF THE VICE-PRESIDENT OF ENGINEERING Discussion: On Friday afternoon, April 17, 1998, the licensee announced the resignation of Al Blind, Vice-President of Engineering. The resignation is effective May 1, 1998, and he cited personal reasons as the basis for his decision. Mr. Blind started his nuclear career at D. C. Cook in 1976. He was named Plant Manager in 1989 and Site Vice-President in 1994. Recently Mr. Blind had been named Vice-President Nuclear Engineering. A decision on a replacement has not yet been made, but an interim Chief Nuclear Engineer is expected to be named prior to Mr. Blind's departure. Regional Action: Information only. Contact: BRUCE L. MR Number: 4-98-0019 Palo Verde 1 Date: 04/20/98 Wintersburg,Arizona Senior Resident Inspector Dockets: 50-528 PWR/CE80 Subject: RESTART FROM SEVENTH REFUELING OUTAGE Discussion: On April 19, 1998, Palo Verde Unit 1 connected to the grid following completion of a 36-day refueling outage (originally scheduled for 37 days). In addition to refueling, the major work activities included the replacement of seal packages and shafts on all four reactor coolant pumps, electrical generator stator bar clip repairs, and steam generator eddy current testing. Other work included the 5-year inservice inspection of the emergency diesel generators, modification of the seal package on low pressure safety injection Pump B, and modifications to high pressure safety injection system valve operators.
