Subject: MANAGEMENT CHANGES AT BRUNSWICK AND ROBINSON                    

Discussion:

Carolina Power & Light (CP&L) announced on May 18, 1998, that            
C. S. "Scotty" Hinnant, currently Vice President at the Brunswick Nuclear
Plant, has been named Senior Vice President for Nuclear Generation and   
Chief Nuclear Officer of CP&L effective June 1, 1998.  Mr. Hinnant's     
position at Brunswick will be filled by Jack Keenan, currently Vice      
President at the Robinson Nuclear Plant.  Mr. Keenan's position at       
Robinson will be filled by Dale Young, currently Director of Site        
Operations at Robinson.  Mr. John Moyer, currently the Robinson Plant    
General Manager, will become the Director of Site Operations at Robinson.
Mr. Moyer will retain his Plant General Manger responsibilities in       
addition to those of his new position.                                   
                                                                         
These announcements were made by W. S. "Skip" Orser, who is the Executive
Vice President-Energy Supply at CP&L.  Mr. Orser will continue to oversee
the company's generation program and Mr. Hinnant will report to him.
