Discussion:

The NRC staff plans to issue the following:                              
                                                                         
A supplement to IN 96-48, "Motor Operated Valve Performance Issues" to   
alert nuclear power plant licensees to the potential for torque output   
from MOV operators to be less than predicted. Technical Contact is Thomas
G. Scarborough, NRR, 301-415-2794, E-mail tgs@nrc.gov. A new information 
notice is being prepared which will discuss recent problems with lube oil
and cooling water systeme welds on Fairbanks Morse emergency diesel
