MR Number: 2-98-0039 Farley 1 2 Date: 08/14/98 Ashford,Alabama Dockets: 50-348,50-364 PWR/W-3-LP,PWR/W-3-LP Subject: SOUTHERN NUCLEAR OPERATING COMPANY AND IBEW CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS Discussion: Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) and IBEW are continuing contract negotiations. A proposed contract has been submitted for a vote by covered employees. The current contract expires at 12:00 midnight Saturday, August 15, 1998. Affected employees include licensed Reactor Operators, electricians, and mechanics. Regional and resident inspectors have reviewed the licensee's strike contingency plan. There are sufficient licensed operators to continue plant operations for the near term. Additional simulator training has been conducted for response to a Steam Generator Tube Rupture due to increasing tube leakage in the Unit 1 'B' Steam Generator. Unit 1 is scheduled to be shut down on October 3, 1998, for a scheduled refueling outage. Regional Action: The region and resident inspectors are continuing to monitor the licensee's progress. MR Number: 3-98-0057 Palisades 1 Date: 08/14/98 Covert,Michigan SRI Via Telecon Dockets: 50-255 PWR/CE Subject: ANNOUNCEMENT OF CONSUMERS ENERGY MANAGEMENT CHANGE Discussion: On August 14, 1998, the licensee announced that, effective immediately, Mr. Darrell Turner will assume the position of Plant Engineering Supervisor. Mr. Turner will report to Richard J. Gerling, Manager, Design Engineering. Mr Turner formerly held the position of Fix-It-Now Team Lead Supervisor. Mr. Turner has 20 years of experience with Consumers Energy in operations, engineering, and maintenance. Mr. Turner will be responsible for short-term design engineering issues in support of daily plant operations and maintenance. Mr. Turner replaces Mr. David D.
