He had joined PSE and G in this capacity in October 1994. PSE and G simultaneously announced the appointment of Harold W. Keiser to succeed Eliason. Keiser joins PSE and G from Commonwealth Edison, in Illinois, where he was vice president and chief operating officer of the company's nuclear unit. Prior to that, he was executive vice president and chief operating officer of Entergy Operations, Inc., in Jackson Mississippi, the nuclear subsidiary of Entergy Corporation. Prior to joining Entergy, Keiser spent thirteen years at Pennsylvania Power and Light, leaving in March 1993 as Senior Vice President, Nuclear Operations. Keiser's appointment will take effect immediately, in order to allow for a three-month transition through April 30, 1998, the effective date of Eliason's retirement at which time Keiser will assume the title of president and chief nuclear officer. Date: 01/13/98 Cook 1 2 DECISION BY REGIONAL MANAGEMENT Bridgman,Michigan Dockets: 50-315,50-316 PWR/W-4-LP,PWR/W-4-LP Subject: SPECIAL INSPECTION OF LICENSEE'S SHORT TERM ASSISSMENT IN CAL ITEMS Discussion: Following a public meeting with the licensee on January 8, 1998, the NRC sent a special team to D. C. Cook on January 9, 1998. The purpose of the team is to review a sampling of the licensee's corrective actions in response to the Confirmatory Action Letter (CAL) issued on September 19, 1997. The team will also validate the licensee's root cause analysis and verify some of the licensee's conclusions reached during their assessment of the CAL items. Following the inspection, the NRC will assess the results of the inspection and make a determination regarding whether or not to lift the CAL. The team consists of a team leader from Region III, a region based inspector, the former Architect Engineering (AE) Team leader from NRR and two of the original AE Team contractors. MR Number: 3-98-0003 Point Beach 1 2 Date: 01/12/98 Two Rivers,Wisconsin FAX FROM LICENSEE Dockets: 50-266,50-301 PWR/W-2-LP,PWR/W-2-LP Subject: APPOINTMENT OF NEW CHIEF NUCLEAR OFFICER Discussion: Wisconsin Electric announced that Mike Sellman will be appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer at a January 29, 1998, board of directors' meeting. He will join Wisconsin Electric following a transition period and report to Richard R. Grigg, the current Chief Nuclear Officer. The appointment of Mr. Sellman is expected by the licensee to allow Mr. Grigg, who is also the President and Chief Operating Officer, to focus on other areas of Wisconsin Electric operations.
