The activity of the particle was about 0.07 microcuries. The worker was an employee of Chem Nuclear Systems, Inc. (CNSI) located in Barnwell, South Carolina and had travelled from South Carolina to the Surry site in his personal automobile. Upon discovery of the radioactive particle, Surry personnel conducted a survey of the worker's personal items and his automobile and found no other radioactive material. The NRC notified the State of South Carolina of the discovery and the State confirmed that they had been previously informed by CNSI. NRC was notified by CNSI that they were conducting an investigation of the event and that they will provide their results to the State of South Carolina. NRC informed the Commonwealth of Virginia of this event. Regional Action: Region II is continuing to monitor the State of South Carolina's followup on this event. Contact: K. Barr (404)562-4653 _
