Subject: NRC Information Notice concerning the Loss of Inventory from    
         Closed-loop Cooling Water Systems                               


Discussion:

The NRC intends to issue an Information Notice that identifies potential 
problems associated with the Loss of Inventory from Closed-loop Cooling  
Water Systems.                                                           
                                                                         
The proposed notice, "Loss of Inventory from Closed-loop Cooling Water   
Systems," will discuss events where actual leakage or analysis           
established that excessive leakage could render a Closed-loop Cooling    
Water System inoperable in the absence of a reliable and timely          
annunciation and/or makeup system.
