NRC INFORMATION NOTICE 98-19: SHAFT BINDING IN GENERAL ELECTRIC TYPE SBM 
CONTROL SWITCHES, dated June 3, 1998                                     
                                                                         
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is issuing this information 
notice (IN) to alert addressees to the potential for some General        
Electric (GE) Type SBM control switches with spring return function to   
fail to return to the normal position because the manufacturer failed to 
account for shrinkage of the phenolic material as a result of post-mold

Subject: VIRGINIA POWER ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION OF VICE PRESIDENT NUCLEAR  
         OPERATIONS                                                      


Discussion:

Virginia Electric and Power Company announced the resignation of         
Mr. Michael R. Kansler, Vice President Nuclear Operations, effective     
May 26, 1998.  The Vice President Nuclear Operations has responsibilities
for the operation of both the North Anna and Surry facilities.           
Mr. William R. Matthews, Site Vice President of North Anna and Mr. David 
Christian, Site Vice President of Surry will alternate weekly as Vice    
President of Nuclear Operations until a successor is named to the        
position.
