Discussion:

On October 22, 1997, the licensee announced a change in the Unit 1       
projected restart date from December 15, 1997, to April 2, 1998, with    
plans to achieve 100 percent power by May 1, 1998. Prior to restart, the 
licensee plans to make numerous material condition improvements and to   
address other performance issues that have been identified since         
September 1996, when the plant was shut down.                            

Regional Action:

The NRC restart panel has been established to review activities at       
LaSalle prior to the restart. The panel is using the guidance in NRC     
Inspection Manual Chapter 0350.
