MR Number: 3-97-0089 Duane Arnold 1 Date: 08/25/97 Palo,Iowa SRI VIA LAN Dockets: 50-331 BWR/GE-4 Subject: PLANT SHUTDOWN TO REPAIR MAIN CONDENSER TUBE LEAK Discussion: On August 22, 1997, at approximately 10:00 p.m. (CDT), the licensee elected to commence a controlled shutdown to a cold shutdown condition to identify and repair a circulating water system tube leak in the main condenser. The main turbine generator was removed from the grid on August 23 at approximately 1:00 p.m. The leak was initially identified on August 17, 1997, when an increase in main condenser hotwell conductivity was first identified. The outage is expected to last for 4 days, with startup planned for August 27. During the 4 day outage, the licensee also plans to perform maintenance on the reactor recirculation motor generators and control building chiller.
