This notice was issued to all registered users of transportation packages for uranium hexafluoride to inform them of NRC inspection findings that certain Model 30B cylinders do not meet the fabrication standards in ANSI Standard N14.1. Date: 04/22/97 Bridgeview,Illinois TELECON FROM IDNS Subject: STOLEN MOISTURE DENSITY GAUGE RECOVERED Discussion: The Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety (IDNS) reported the theft of a Troxler moisture density gauge containing sealed cesium-137 and americium-241 sources, from a GME Consultants, Inc. truck on April 21, 1997 (reference PNO-III-97-036). The gauge was recovered on April 22, 1997, by the Chicago Police Department from a vehicle located approximately one block from the site of the theft. The licensee reported that there was no visible damage to the gauge and the source rod was locked in its shielded position. Regional Action: Region III notified NMSS and OSP of the gauge recovery.
