Information Notice 97-50, "CONTAMINATED LEAD PRODUCTS," was issued on    
July 10, 1997.                                                           
                                                                         
This notice was issued to all NRC licensees to alert them to the         
potential for some lead shielding products containing lead to be         
contaminated with naturally-occurring radioactive material.  The         
contaminants are lead-210 and its daughters bismuth-210 and polonium-210.

Discussion:

Carolina Power and Light Company announced on July 16, 1997, that        
Mr. Tim Cleary has been promoted to the position of Maintenance Manager  
for H. B. Robinson, filling the position previously held by John Moyer.  
Mr. Moyer was recently named Plant General Manager for H. B. Robinson.

Subject: DAMAGE TO RADIOGRAPHY CAMERA                                    

Discussion:

On July 16, 1997, the licensee reported that an Amersham, Model 660B     
radiography camera containing 80 curies (2.9 TBq) of iridium-192 was     
damaged when a 1200 lb. pressure tank rolled over the camera. At the time
of the incident the source was in the shielded position. Damage was noted
to the carrying handle and the end-plate of the camera. Radiation surveys
of the camera indicate that the source and camera shielding were not     
compromised. The licensee is in the process of returning the camera to   
the manufacturer for repair. The licensee will submit its 30-day report  
in accordance with 10 CFR 34.30(3).

This incident will be reviewed during the next routine inspection.
