This notice was issued to all NRC licensees to alert them to the potential for some lead shielding products containing lead to be contaminated with naturally-occurring radioactive material. Shymlock (404)562-4540 _ REGION III MORNING REPORT PAGE 3 JULY 17, 1997 Licensee/Facility: Notification: MR Number: 3-97-0079 Industrial Ndt Services Division Date: 07/16/97 Indianapolis,Indiana VIA TELEPHONE CALL TO REGION III Dockets: 03012208 License No: 13-06147-04 Subject: DAMAGE TO RADIOGRAPHY CAMERA Discussion: On July 16, 1997, the licensee reported that an Amersham, Model 660B radiography camera containing 80 curies (2.9 TBq) of iridium-192 was damaged when a 1200 lb. pressure tank rolled over the camera. At the time of the incident the source was in the shielded position. Damage was noted to the carrying handle and the end-plate of the camera. Radiation surveys of the camera indicate that the source and camera shielding were not compromised. The licensee is in the process of returning the camera to the manufacturer for repair. The licensee will submit its 30-day report in accordance with 10 CFR 34.30(3). Regional Action: This incident will be reviewed during the next routine inspection.
