Skeen NEW ISSUE. The Hope Creek licensee reports that thermal degradation of the bearing pad material of the Model 219 NE relay has been confirmed with the manufacturer, Struthers-Dunn. This failure mechanism occurs when the coil is energized, leading to chattering of the armature and contacts. The relay can fail with open contact, closed contact or shorted coil. This failure mechanism has been observed only for relays with alternating current coils. The degraded material is magnetic vinyl plastic. The proper material is silicon rubber. _ HEADQUARTERS MORNING REPORT PAGE 2 APRIL 16, 1997 Licensee/Facility: Notification: Part 21 Database MR Number: H-97-0041 Abb Power T&D Date: 04/16/97 Subject: Part 21 - Crossed sensor wires in K600S low voltage breaker with SS-5 solid state trip device Discussion: VENDOR: ABB Power T&D PT21 FILE NO: 97310 DATE OF DOCUMENT: 03/26/97 ACCESSION NUMBER: 9704010062 SOURCE DOCUMENT: REVIEWER: PECB, D.
