Subject: APPOINTMENT OF NEW PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF     
         NEW YORK POWER AUTHORITY                                        


Discussion:

The New York Power Authority (NYPA), Power Authority of Trustees         
announced the appointment of Eugene W. Zeltmann as President and Chief   
Operating Officer of NYPA.  Mr. Zeltmann replaces Robert G. Schoenberger.
                                                                         
Mr. Zeltmann comes to the NYPA from the New York State Public Service    
Commission where he most recently served as the Deputy Chairman.         
Mr. Zeltmann also had a lengthy executive tenure with the General        
Electric Company.                                                        
                                                                         
This management change applies to Indian Point 3 and FitzPatrick.

Subject: INPUT INTO MORNING REPORT FOR PERRY SHUTDOWN                    

Discussion:

Perry Nuclear Plant operators opened the turbine generator output breaker
at 12:01 a.m. on September 12, 1997 to begin Refueling Outage RF-6 the   
plant entered Mode 3 at 12:50 a.m. following a manual scram of the       
reactor. The unit is currently in Mode 4 making preparations for         
detensioning the reactor vessel head. Major activities scheduled during  
the planned 38-day outage include; replacing eight condenser expansion   
joints; installation of large capacity emergency core cooling suction    
strainers; service water piping replacement. Contract negotiations       
between Cleveland Electric and the IBEW are continuing.
