Information Notice 97-64, "POTENTIAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH LOSS OF    
ELECTRICAL POWER IN CERTAIN TELETHERAPY UNITS," will be issued on        
August 13, 1997.                                                         
                                                                         
This notice is being issued to all medical teletherapy licensees to alert
them to a potential problem associated with the loss of electrical power 
in the Theratron 1000 teletherapy unit manufactured by Theratronics      
International, Limited.  In one case, the treatment table moved out of   
position after power was lost during a treatment.  The licensee reset the
unit and restarted the treatment without realigning the table resulting  
in exposure of the wrong treatment site.
