MR Number: 1-97-0003 Maine Yankee 1 Date: 01/08/97 Wiscasset,Maine SRI PC Dockets: 50-309 PWR/CE Subject: POTENTIAL MANAGEMENT CHANGES Discussion: The Maine Yankee Chairman of the Board, Mr. David Flanagan, announced yesterday, that Entergy, Inc. of New Orleans, La. had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Maine Yankee to provide plant management services for the station. The agreement was to commence immediately with Mr. Charles Frizzle to remain as President and Chief Executive Officer for approximately thirty days until a formal contract is agreed upon by the parties. Mr. Frizzle had submitted his resignation on December 20, 1996 (Morning Report 1-96-0110). Before a contract could be signed, Entergy was to complete a plant evaluation and negotiate final terms and conditions. Mr. Flanagan also announced that Mr. Jerry Yelverton of Entergy, Inc. would become the Chief Nuclear Officer reporting directly to the Maine Yankee Board of Directors. The contract to be signed was initially described as being for approximately one year with a provision for future extension. Mr. Flanagan also stated that Entergy would also assess the current officers and management at Maine Yankee in the next three months to determine if additional changes are necessary. Mr. Rick Machon, Site Vice President, and Mr. Gene Preston, Plant Manager, will be leaving TVA to pursue other endeavors. Mr. Chris Crane will be moved from Assistant Plant Manager to the Plant Manager position. Until a replacement is found for the Site Vice President position, Mr. Ike Zeringue, the Senior Vice President Nuclear, will assume responsibilities on a temporary basis as the Senior Manager on site.
