MR Number: 3-97-0067 Byron 1 Date: 05/05/97 Byron,Illinois E-MAIL Dockets: 50-454 PWR/W-4-LP Subject: UNIT 1 MAIN GENERATOR BUS DUCT COOLING REPAIRS Discussion: On May 3, 1997, at approximately 2:30 a.m. (CDT) Unit 1 was removed from the grid to repair main generator bus duct cooling dampers. The dampers were incorrectly positioned during a previous outage. Slightly elevated temperatures had also recently been noted. Due to the recent increase in bus duct temperatures, the licensee inspected the bus ducts and no significant deficiencies were noted. On May 4, 1997, at approximately 11:00 a.m. Unit 1 was returned to the grid. Temperatures similar to the previous bus duct temperatures continue to exist after returning the main generator to service. The licensee continues to investigate the cause of the elevated temperatures. Regional Action: The residents monitored the shutdown, maintenance work, and subsequent plant re-start. The residents also continue to follow the status of the bus duct temperatures. Contact: NICK HILTON (815)234-5451 _
