Subject: ORGANIZATION CHANGES                                            

Discussion:

Carolina Power & Light Company has announced organizational changes to   
become effective January 1, 1997.  Mr. Bill Cavanaugh, has been elected  
the company's President and Chief Operating Officer, succeeding          
Mr. Sherwood Smith.  Mr. Smith will continue to serve as Chairman of the 
Board of Directors.  Another change combines the current Nuclear         
Generation and Power Operations Groups.  The new combined group will be  
Energy Supply.  Mr. Skip Orser, will become Executive Vice President and 
Chief Nuclear Officer over the new organization.  Mr. Jim Davis, Senior  
Vice President-Power Operations, will continue to direct the Fossil      
Generation, Fossil Fuel, and System Operations and Planning Departments  
and will report to Mr. Orser.                                            

Regional Action:

Resident Inspectors will follow the implementation of the new            
organization.
