OF NUCLEAR SAFETY Subject: STOLEN DELIVERY TRUCK (VIA TELECON FROM IL DEPT. OF NUCLEAR SAFETY) Discussion: On June 19, 1996, the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety (IDNS) informed Region III that a delivery truck carrying byproduct material was stolen on June 12, 1996, in Chicago, Illinois. IDNS was notified by the licensee the previous evening. The truck was delivering biomedical products from the licensee, including 10 radioimmunoassay (in vitro) kits containing approximately a total quantity of 200 microcuries (7.4 MBq) iodine-125. The vehicle was recovered on June 18, 1996, but the kits were not recovered. The licensee may issue a press release regarding the incident. Regional Action: The Regional State Agreements Officer will monitor the State's incident followup. Both Nuclear Materials Safety and Safeguards and the Office of State Programs were notified. MR Number: 4-96-0062 Diablo Canyon 1 2 Date: 06/19/96 Avila Beach,California Licensee Announcement Dockets: 50-275,50-323 PWR/W-4-LP,PWR/W-4-LP Subject: RETIREMENT OF VICE PRESIDENT/PLANT MANAGER Discussion: On June 19, 1996, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) announced the retirement of Warren Fujimoto, Vice President and Plant Manager for the Diablo Canyon Power Plant, effective July 1, 1996. Mr. Fujimoto has served in this position since 1994. Robert Powers, currently serving as Operations Manager, will succeed Mr. Fujimoto. Mr. Powers has been part of the PG&E organization since 1982. While at Diablo Canyon, Mr. Powers has held various positions including: Manager, Nuclear Quality Services; Manager, Support Services; Director, Mechanical Maintenance; Director, Quality Control; and Director, Radiation Protection.
