MR Number: 3-95-0198 Zion 1 Date: 12/27/95 Zion,Illinois RI VIA PC Dockets: 50-295 PWR/W-4-LP Subject: OVERTEMPERATURE TRANSIENT Discussion: On December 24 with the reactor at 100 percent power, the average reactor coolant system (RCS) temperature increased approximately 4 degrees F and nuclear instrumentation indicated greater than 100 percent power. The temperature increase was apparently due to the dilution of boron in the RCS. The boron dilution resulted when the cation demineralizer was placed in service to remove lithium. The licensee is investigating the cause of the apparent boron dilution. Regional Action: The resident staff and regional inspectors are continuing to followup the licensee's investigation.
